What do I need to get started?
You need either an Amazon Alexa smart speaker, or to have the free Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet/iPad.
The ABC Emergency skill may need to be enabled before you can use it. Browse for 'ABC Emergency' in the app menu or say,
"Alexa, enable ABC Emergency skill"
What do I do once I'm set-up?
To get started say "Alexa, open ABC Emergency" or "Alexa, are there any emergencies near me?"
If you want emergency information faster, include your town or suburb in your request. You could say a phrase like,
"Alexa, ask ABC Emergency to give me an update for Perth."
And if you include the postcode as well, we'll know which location you want information about straight away:
"Alexa, ask ABC Emergency to give me information for Parramatta two-one-five-zero."
Want to set your location?
- Want to use your device location? Say, "Alexa, use my device location" at any point while using the skill.
- Want to set a new favourite location? "Alexa, set a new favourite location."
- Want us to forget your favourite location? "Alexa, reset my favourite location.
Where does the information come from?
The ABC Emergency Alexa skill uses real-time data from the Bureau of Meteorology and Australia's state-based emergency services.
Information is accessible for 15,000+ towns and suburbs across Australia.
