Program: Doctors on high alert as heatwave hits northern Australia

Space to play or pause, M to mute, left and right arrows to seek, up and down arrows for volume.

Doctors and community health groups are on high alert as a stretch of searingly hot days hits central and northern Australia.

Temperatures are expected to hit the mid 40s right across the north, and climb to the high 30s in south east Queensland.

In the Northern Territory, there's deep concern for people living in remote communities where over-crowding and poor air conditioning facilities exacerbate the problem.
