Program: Job reference horror stories, and how to avoid them

Space to play or pause, M to mute, left and right arrows to seek, up and down arrows for volume.

They’re usually the last step in the process, but reference checks are an important part of a job hire. And if you get them wrong, you can have a real situation on your hands.

What's best practice when it comes to reference checking: whether you’re hiring, trying to be hired, or giving a reference for someone else?

Guests:

Jason Elias, specialist legal industry recruiter and board member RCSA (Recruitment, Consulting and Staffing Association)

Dr Timothy Bednall, Associate Professor in Management, School of Business Law and Entrepreneurship, Swinburne University

And thanks to “Sarah” and Desleigh for sharing their reference check horror stories.
